Perfect Nonsense

10th Agers have been quite the French poets lately. For February's folder paper, each student followed the pattern of a sample French nonsense poem and chose three recently learned prepositions and four nouns to incorporate into their own creation. The results were well-written and often very humorous. The students then drew pictures to go with their poems.
Here are some samples of their work:

City of Lights

Did you know that Paris is the most visited city in the world with over 70 million visitors each year? Paris is full of history, beauty, and charm. 8th Agers know a lot about Paris. They have learned about the Seine River that divides the city into two parts: la Rive Gauche (The Left Bank) and la Rive Droite  (The Right Bank). And they know some history and interesting facts about many of the famous landmarks in Paris: Notre Dame, le Métro, l'Arc de Triomphe, l'Obélisque, le Louvre, la Tour Eiffel, and l'Opéra.

This is a gargoyle. He sits at the top of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Memory Game

7th Agers had fun playing a matching game in French class. Groups of students shared a set of cards with pictures of the fruits they have been learning this week:
l'orange (orange)    l'ananas (pineapple)    la fraise (strawberry)
la banane (banana)    les raisins (grapes)
la pomme (apple)    le citron  (lemon)    les cerises (cherries)    la poire (pear)
Students said the French words for the fruit as they turned over the cards ... a fun way to memorize new vocabulary. Students were also able to describe the colors of the fruit as well as their likes (J'aime ...) and dislikes (Je n'aime pas) for each.

Crazy for Crêpes

French Club members had loads of fun this week playing chef. Not only did they look the part, they got to cook as well as eat. Each student ate two delicious crêpes, made on the spot by Madame Cooke. Crêpe choices included fromage, jambon, framboise, and chocolat. Students also made their own crêpe batter to take home to their families. What a great job they did cracking eggs, measuring and adding milk, sugar, salt, flour, and hot butter, and then stirring it all until smooth and creamy.
Merci to all of our helpers:
Madame Pinkard and 8th graders Isabelle, Madeleine, et Elisabeth.
